Michael Chee 

Director, External Communications – Design and Consulting Services, Americas – AECOM                                                                                                                                                      

Michael has over 30 years’ public relations and communications experience, encompassing consumer, corporate, business-to-business, healthcare, large scale infrastructure, public affairs and high-profile crisis and issues management. In his current role, Michael supervises AECOM’s external media and communications for its Design and Consulting Service business lines across the Americas.  These business lines span the major infrastructure areas of Architecture, Construction and Project Management, Energy, Engineering, Environment, Resilience, Transportation and Water.  His duties encompass media relations, issues management, corporate spokesman, providing insights and strategic counsel to senior leaders and creation of social media content that supports business operations.  His efforts span AECOM’s operations across Canada, the United States and South America.

Michael’s experience includes an array of high-profile crisis situations in healthcare, business, financial and community situations.  He has developed and executed successful large-scale communication campaigns for clients including AECOM, Bank of America, Blue Cross/WellPoint, the iconic LA County Fair, and delivered community engagement programs for clients in healthcare delivery and financing, state and municipal governments, and non-profit community-based organizations.

Michael is a previous recipient of PR Week’s “Best Corporate Communication Teams” award, an active contributing mentor and professional instructor with the Asian American Professional Association and devotes time outside the office to numerous Asian Pacific Islander social justice and community issues. Veronica Soto

Senior Advisor for Workforce Development Los Angeles – World Airport HireLAX Program

Veronica Soto is the Senior Advisor for Workforce Development for the Los Angeles World Airports HireLAX Program. Previously, she also served as the Inclusivity & Workforce Development Administrator for the Los Angeles World Airports $14B Landside Access Modernization Program and Capital Improvement Program. She possesses over 20 years experience developing public agency economic and workforce development programs that promote diversity and economic inclusion based on high standards of equity, open competition and transparency.

Veronica developed nationally and locally recognized programs for the $2.4B Alameda Corridor Project, $27B Los Angeles Unified School District School Construction Program, $6.2B Los Angeles Community College District Bond Program, and $350M Martin Luther King Medical Center Project. She also served as the Los Angeles Director for Emerald Cities Collaborative and performed economic inclusion work in New Orleans post Katrina.

Veronica’s commitment to creating connections between industry and youth is also long-standing. She created the ACES Engineering Pathway Program to increase the diversity of students entering the design and construction industry by eliminating barriers to higher education and providing paid internship experience on major capital projects. ACES capitalizes on the high demand for skilled workers, zero-cost STEAM community college course offerings, and supportive services provided by the County and City to eliminate barriers to employment for disadvantaged youth.

Veronica has served on a variety of boards, is a member of numerous industry organizations, and is a recipient of local, regional and national awards for her work building the competitive capacity of small, diverse firms and creating pathways for local and disadvantaged workers. She recently completed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Mel King Fellowship on Transnational Economic Democracy.
