"Although I have attended many other small biz courses and workshops, I find that PACE has a better understanding how to start a biz...from 'A to Z.'"
When she was approached by Spanish-speaking reporter at a fashion show over ten years ago, Ana Lydia Ochoa’s career in public relations began. At the time, there were only two Hispanic PR agencies in existence, and Hispanics were hardly seen as a minority worth spending PR and marketing resources on. Ana Lydia sought to change that.
After working in the field as a public relations and marketing expert for over ten years, Ana Lydia decided it was time to launch her own company—one that would focus on the new generation of bilingual, urban trendsetters. However, although she had the expertise and talent to start her own firm, she notably lacked the professional office environment in which to grow. This was a significant limiting factor, as maintaining a professional image is itself a key foundation of the PR industry.
At this point, she came to PACE in search of a way to build capital to establish her company. PACE consultants immediately began to work on outlining her cash flow projections for her first year of business. Furthermore, PACE recently awarded Ana Lydia with the $1,000 “Women and Company Micro-Enterprise Boost Equity Award,” in recognition of her outstanding services and her unwavering commitment to the community.
With this grant, Ana Lydia was able to purchase much needed furniture for the new office of her company, Padma Media & Marketing (PMM). With PACE’s aid in establishing Ana Lydia’s firm in its new office environment, PMM now conveys a professional image in conjunction with its top-notch services, which have attracted such prominent clients as Corona Extra, Americas United Bank , The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Los Angeles County, Los Cenzontles, and photographer & artist John Urquiza.
In addition to the grant, PACE also applied for a $700 Trickle Up grant for Ana Lydia to use for marketing expenses, including brochures and website development.
Ana Lydia’s full-service communications firm specializes in consumer products, fashion and entertainment, with a special emphasis on the bilingual Hispanic market. PMM has since received recognition in national trade publications, magazines and newspapers, as well as various governmental and business awards.
