“…Getting licenses, creating plans, budgeting, money, marketing … PACE has helped me with everything.”

Ever since she can remember, Kristine Karnaky has been drawing sketches of women in an assortment of clothing designs, dreaming of her future as a fashion designer. She steadfastly held onto those dreams, and after attending school for fashion design and working with Zandra Rhodes in London , she finally started her own business for her own fashion designs, Miss KK.

Kristine started off working some freelance design work and custom designs for friends and a few boutiques; however, her business was still small, and she lacked the resources to create a larger production and release her own collection. Needing assistance with securing financing and growing her business, she made an appointment with PACE.

PACE consultants helped her develop a detailed plan and showed her how to estimate her exact costs. At first, her estimated costs were very high. As she continued to work with PACE consultants, she began to understand that if her costs were high, then her price would have to be high as well. As a result, she began to take careful consideration of her competition in her identified target market.

Furthermore, through PACE, Kristine was able to access several hours of technical assistance on her cash flow projections, detailed cost analysis, market profile, and business plan. PACE consultants helped her pull everything together into a loan package, which was submitted to the Jewish Free Loan Association. She was approved for a $10,000 interest free loan.

With this, Kristine was able to create her Fall 2007 collection, which she marketed to a boutiques in Los Angeles , San Francisco and New York, describing it as “a dream come true.” She was also able to consolidate some debt to improve her credit score, making her more creditworthy for future business loans. Overall, through PACE, Kristine learned a lot about managing her own business and finally obtained the boost to make Miss KK grow.

Currently, Kristine is finishing up orders for several new boutiques and working on creating her second collection for spring 2008. She has many goals for the future, including an expansion of her collection to shoes and accessories, and hopes to one day open her own boutique and becoming a successful, well-known designer.
